Get The Look - Emily in Paris

Paris is The City of Lights, the city of love and of course, ultra-chic designer outfits, so it's no surprise that we binged the latest Netflix show, Emily in Paris purely for entertainment purposes and to get the best fashion inspo and style tips of 2020.

Merci Netflix for giving us something else to talk and think about that is not face mask 'fashion' related!

78 Year old, costume designer, Patricia Field who styled Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City two decades ago, has done it again but this time alongside Marylin Fitoussi. We can see the same signature fun and quirky style on the young Emily, a marketing executive who has moved from Chicago to Paris for work. With a 200k strong social following, this influencer (Emily) has surely given us some très chic, brightly coloured OTT and OOB (out of budget) fashion moments. Here are some of our favourite sartorially coveted outfits and best fabric matches to recreate

  5. Oscars 2019: Who Wore It Best?

Oscars 2019: Who Wore It Best?

You may have noticed that it is awards season in movie world, each ceremony bringing with it a new feast of fashion to pore over. One awards show trumps all others in Hollywood-land, however, when it comes to prestige, and that is, of course, The Academy Awards. The stars spend months preparing their Oscars looks for a world-wide audience - so we are obviously going to ask you, a part of that audience with us, to join us in deciding which leading ladies really made magic happen with their Oscars 2019 style.

Who do you think wore it better?

    The Pinks.

Pink was everywhere on this year's red carpet. These are our picks for the prettiest pinks of the bunch. Which one is your favourite?

Dame Helen Mirren's trend-infused pleated tulle dress, by Schiaparelli.

Best Of British: The Girls Of The Brit Awards 2019

The Brit Awards: not for shy, retiring artists who like to blend in with the crowd. Our favourite outfits from the girls of 2019 are...drum roll...

Jess Glynne looking divine in satiny, old-school glamour from Vivienne Westwood Couture.

  7. Goodness Gracious, Grammys! Fashion Hits From Music's Finest.

Goodness Gracious, Grammys! Fashion Hits From Music's Finest.

The 61st annual Grammy Awards took place in LA last night with its usual succession of wild and wonderful style moments. We think these five ladies took out the Best Dressed honours for 2019! Who was your favourite?

Slinky, sequinned Versace. Lady Gaga was in one of the more sedate outfits of the evening, which is not a sentence we hear often...

  8. Did You Know...Custom Clothing Is More Accessible Than You Think!

Did You Know...Custom Clothing Is More Accessible Than You Think!

Did you know that recreating your favourite dress/skirt, kaftan or even that designer-inspired tweed jacket, can be as simple as purchasing some quality fabric and going to a great dressmaker.

You would probably be surprised (and delighted!) to learn that the price of having a garment made up for you is often comparable to off-the-rack options. Most modern fabrics are woven in a wide width, so it can be very cost-effective to have your clothes custom-made, not to mention gratifying to replicate your (seen-better-days-but-fits-like-a-glove dress...).

    What you need:

You do not need a designer. You just need the right dressmaker or tailor.  Joel & Son are always happy to recommend talented clothiers who have been shopping with us for years (and in some cases, decades).

  9. Four SAG Awards Looks That Stole The Show!

Four SAG Awards Looks That Stole The Show!

Putting the actual trophy winners from Sunday's Screen Actor's Guild Awards aside, these four ladies absolutely owned the red carpet and won the evening's fashion show hands down, in our couture obsessed opinion! Agree?

Margot Robbie in Chanel. A white silk crêpe, stitched beautifully with inserts of hand-made golden and beige toned raffia.

  10. Coral - The Colour Of 2019.

Coral - The Colour Of 2019.

So, apparently, having a 'colour of the year' is a thing these days, and who better to make the call on this than colour institute, Pantone, AKA the universal language of colour standards.

Their decision to name 'Living Coral' the 'one' for 2019 is based on research into what's been seen in movies, fashion, art, travel destinations etc, which basically means that this bright, honeyed, pinky orange was all over the runways in 2018, and therefore all over the stars, and therefore - soon to be all over all of us!

Fun, bold corals and pretty peachy tones are popping up all over the place. Now it's your turn. Make a splash with it. It's a playful, expressive colour palette, so have some fun with it and look gorge.

  12. A Warm Welcome Back To: The Slip Dress!

A Warm Welcome Back To: The Slip Dress!

Want an easy, breezy update to your 2019 wardrobe? Silky slip dresses, that good old 90s fashion superstar, have bounced right back into style in all their slinky, comfy glory, and with them, they've brought their close cousin, the slip skirt.

(Kate Moss was a 90s slip dress queen)

If you remember them from the first time around, you're probably remembering how comfortable slip dresses are, and cheering that you can throw them on again without looking like you've wandered off the Party of Five set. And if you're new to the style, prepare to fall in love. These guys can go anywhere, a little bit slinky for evening wear or pared back with a sweater or tee for a more casual vibe. They're also a great transitional piece - warm it up with a knit on top and you've got a very Autumn (or English summer) friendly look.
