Our E-commerce director, Coby Bull attended the event "Tailoring for Paul Smith" at the Paul Smith shop in Westbourne Grove, hosted by the Design Museum. We sat down with Coby and asked him about his overall experience.
Are you a Paul Smith fan?
"I think its amazing how Paul Smith can take a classic cut suit and add small, interesting, and unique details that really that make it his and part of his trademark."
What were you expecting to get out of the day?
I was hoping to better understand the creation process of a Paul Smith suit as well as get a glimpse into behind the scenes. Learning from someone who has succesfully been in the industry for some time, I was was sure to ready to extend my knowledge in the creative process of making suits.
What did you learn?
It was very interesting to hear and see all the different techniques and time it takes to create the Paul Smith suit.
What did you learn about their suits and fabrics?
They spoke in detail about the evolution of suits within Paul Smith as well as the history of suits. In his latest Menswear collection for SS2014, the suits have suit covers in Ferrari mesh, which follows through with the quirky inspiration of this collection.
It was exciting to hear that Paul Smith primarily uses Loro Piana suiting fabric, as Joel & Son are the exclusive UK stockists and have a fantastic selection online and in store in all colours, weaves, and compositions. Our staff are friendly and happy to help choose the perfect suiting to create an impeccable and exclusive suit, with classic and unique details.
Coby wore a Paul Smith suit to the event. The suit has a slim cut with notch lapel detailing, and the vibrant royal blue makes it the perfect Spring must-have.
Here are a few examples of the vibrant suiting we have stocked on our website:
From left to right: Canary yellow, apple green, royal blue, strawberry red, sunset orange.
