Winter suits are made during the Summer, and if you only have one item ready for this Fall, you’d want to make sure it’s a checked suit. The AW13 shows were particularly flooded with the classic winter print, but now checks comes in all shapes sizes, colours, widths and spacing. Lumberjacks, punk, highland clan or midwest cowboy, make checks your own this season from shirting to suiting. Wear it classically with a houndstooth or Prince of Wales check, clash or mix-and-match with a different print for jacket and trouser or daringly take the trend full-force to the extra level, Gucci style and match even your underpants.

Despite a huge variation of checkered patterns being available, this season pointed to the focus being on red checks - call it ‘pillarbox’, 'blood red' or ‘Valentino’ red, this colour is sure to boost your confidence when wearing it! This satuared tone mixed with checks packs a punch and the pattern suits everyone - wear it in the office on dress down Friday's or layer it over a tee or thermal for after work drinks when it gets a little chillier.

The key to retaining your sartorial self-respect lies in the ability to successfully differentiate between seasonal trends and classics - luckily for you, checks are both.
