Taking its name from the colour of the Lilac flower, lilac is the new 'in colour'. Symbiotic with youthfulness and innocence, in the past, lilac was associated with mourning. In the early nineteenth-century it was one of the few shades considered appropriate for a woman to wear towards the end of her mourning period when black was no longer required.
