The Little Black Dress. Few fashion styles are as timeless and reliable as this chic fashion icon, first popularised by Coco Chanel and Jean Patou in the 1920s.
Let Joel & Son help you to create your ideal LBD. Look through our Little Black Dress menu online for a selection of perfect fabrics. If you are feeling inspired, here is a quick guide.
Coco Chanel's seminal, long-sleeved, un-lined design from 1926.
Some of our favourites.
The Minimalist 90s Knee Length Style.
Christy Turlington in a sleek, body-skimming LBD with spaghetti straps.
Why not try our evergreen black, 4 ply, double-weight silk marocain crêpe from Italy, for that 'after six' LBD.
The 1960s Yves Saint Laurent.
Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour.
The Breakfast At Tiffany's Givenchy.
Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly.
Another Joel & Son favourite is a black microfibre crêpe, a crease-resistant fabric with the weight that moulds perfectly to the body. For Audrey's style, finish with a belt around the middle, with a diamanté clasp at the front.
Balenciaga's original 1940s take on the LBD.
This can be made with all of the fabrics featured above. Try our black 'flowers & leaves' beaded trim to embellish the collar and waist.

Most LBD's use approximately 2 metres of fabric, and the equivalent of lining (if required), but check with your dressmaker for your exact requirements.
Our fabrics are all 140cm/54" wide.
