Age ain't nothing but a number.

As we get older we tend to wish that we could moon-walk back to a day where anything we tried on in the changing room was fitted and fabulous. The hardest part of a day was picking which items we could squeeze into our budget. In doing so, we'd be trying not to think about how many hours we had to clear old fogies dirty plates, with throbbing feet wrapped in cheap ballet flats, only to splurge it on one dress. As we age, we also start thinking about unwritten ageist rules that separate us from our youth. Particular colours, graphics, silhouettes and hem lines are acceptable/or not.

The summer camisole's we once loved, don't look the same in the mirror anymore.

The positives to our slow decline is that as we mature, we do define our character and refine our taste; therefore finding our personal style- whether 'stylish' or not. Unfortunately after being morally beaten with all these unwritten rules about how to dress with age, when the time comes that we finally know our taste, we are expected to tone down how we display it. I could throw all the usual (but motivating) quotes such as Oscar Wilde's "You can never be overdressed of overeducated" or "Fashion changes, but style endures", famously said by Miss Chanel. But all you need is a dose of the Advanced Style ladies. Being a big fan of Iris Apfel myself, I consider these women to be the most stylish people on earth. Not because they're always in the latest collections, in fact they never let todays designer's depict their styles. These ladies know what they like and instead of it being a chore- getting dressed in the morning is a fun endeavor each day.

These ladies are "somewhere between 50 and death" and they believe that "Before 80 you lie, and after 80 you're bragging". Quotes from these girls live more to the motto that "When you don't dress like everyone else you don't have to think like everyone else" said by Iris Apfel. Photographed and documented by Ari Seth Cohen in New York, the Advanced Style blog is well worth the look. And now we can really meet the characters documentary that can only be described as FABULOUS.

We all know the feeling of putting on a brand new outfit for the day. You're ready for anything that comes your way. You feel more powerful to battle through the day at work and you're ready for anything that may come after that clock-out. I hope that this has inspired you to have this sort of a day every day. Wear what you love, and love wearing it, no matter what your age.
