A San Francisco wedding
I love weddings and what’s more: I love tailoring for them. Getting married is such a special time in someone’s life and to be part of that journey is a privilege. I have worked with some wonderful bridal parties this year each with their own journey and unique take on the big day, which brings me to my first couple, Jo and Mark who first approached me in April. Jo, a beautiful brunette, came prepared with images, inspiration and a clear vision of her wedding outfit: think back to that iconic Bridal image of a 1970’s Bianca Jagger, and you’re there.
The Cloth
Prior to our meet, I had already sourced my fabric swatches from Joel and Son. For me, they always ‘get on board’ with my projects, showing me fabrics and ideas I hadn’t thought of and essentially, their best cuts of cloth for my clients. Armed with a selection of white wools, some of which were plain, others textured and my favorite, crepe - namely for its grainy bounce back quality, Jo and I pawed our way through the selection, finally decided on a double weight crepe wool. Now you may think that would be a little heavy for a San Fran wedding, but I knew this cloth would make up beautifully retaining both its look and shape for their big day. It also doesn’t crease so is totally travel proof, they did after all, have a 10 hour plane flight to catch!
The Cut
Jo wanted to be able to wear the trouser suit again so although Bianca’s suit was a source of inspiration to us, we were careful not to overdo the design features. We chose a slightly wider peak lapel – I felt angles worked well on Jo’s shape and the overall look of the suit. A single button meet made for a stylish finish with a straight hem edge. We squared off the shoulders slightly to balance the every so gentle flair of the trousers, which cut using our double weight crepe wool hung beautifully.
The Finish
There is nothing better of course, than receiving images from the clients you have worked with, especially when they are as beautiful and stylish as Mark and Jo’s. They chose a San Francisco photographer(http://www.iqphoto.com/) who captured the intimacy of their day perfectly…here are a few of my personal favorites.
