Everyone loves a celebrity wedding!
And the best part, the part that people look forward to most really, is the wedding dress. With access to the best of designers, the lushest of fabrics and the healthiest of budgets, celebrity brides, already generally blessed in the genetics department, are usually pretty gorgeous.
We've seen a number of high profile women tie the knot this year, some in more of a backyard'n'chill mode, and some in ceremonies infused with pomp and steep tradition. So which of these famous brides broke the internet best in 2018, in our bridal-fabric-obsessed opinion? Read on.
We can't really go past Meghan Markle for big bridal moments of the year! Stunning and regal in a custom Claire Waight Keller (of Givenchy) gown, the Duchess of Sussex began her new life as a princess in style. The 'pure white' fabric was an exclusively sourced double-bonded silk cady (a type of woven, thick silk used in couture design) and she wore her hair in a simple up-do. Minimalist elegance at its finest.
We got particularly excited when we saw Gwyneth Paltrow's Valentino wedding dress, because corded lace is one of our favourite bridal fabrics at Joel & Son Fabrics, and we have many similar ones in stock. Loving this bridal moment for not only the beauty of the dress design, but the sheer joy on the faces of everybody in shot (particularly the bride!). We're so happy for you Gwynnie!
Why have one wedding outfit when you can have five (at last count anyway. She keeps revealing more...)? Priyanka Chopra married Nick Jonas in a traditional, multi-celebration Indian wedding, followed by another lavish reception three weeks later. Everything she wore looked spectacular, and her white Ralph Lauren wedding dress, for the Christian ceremony, particularly blew us away. Long sleeved, fitted and hand-beaded and hand-embroidered with pearl paillettes and Swarovski crystals, the dress was a vision of bridal haute couture done very, very right.
Supermodel Chanel Iman looked incredible in her silk tulle, 3-D floral applique Zuhair Murad dress, when she married American footballer Sterling Shepard. The design featured a lovely bridal accent, a matching bolero, to cover the shoulders during the traditional vows, and took 100 hours to make.
Coloured bridal gowns are a thing right now (check out Vera Wang's latest collection). When Mandy Moore casually got married in her backyard in November, her ruffled, soft pink tulle Rodarte gown may have been unconventional, but it was so pretty and provided perfect inspiration for alternative bridal style.
Miley Cyrus surprised the world by announcing she'd married Liam Hemsworth a couple of days before Christmas. She's known for some, how shall we put it - risque - fashion choices, but when it came to her wedding day, Miley stuck with tradition and glammed up in a simple, bespoke silk Vivienne Westwood dress. And she looked gorgeous!
