3 WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR WARDROBE

It feels like winter is never going to arrive in London and whilst we welcome the climate change; is it ever going to be chilly enough to whip out the faux fur!? Most of us have been cultivating our outfits since we fell in love with the A/W runways and how typical… it has been recorded that London has experienced the warmest Autumn on record with spells of sunshine and minimal rain showers! Regardless, stylish women across the country are embracing the cool-ish temperatures but utilising the fashion trick of 'layering' (a great way to avoid a flushed complexion… because we all know that it’s just not the best look). So get ready to find your favourite new coat that you just CAN’T live without because nothing will stop our fashionistas from rocking their winter wardrobes.

1. Boho inspired outfits are very popular at the moment. Think long flowing skirts, bell-bottom sleeves, fringing, embellishment, multi layers and florals; but Boho chic doesn’t just have to be for summer. You can channel this trend into the winter via darker tones, heavy fabrics and winter blooms. This trend is all about the use of natural fabrics like linen, velvet, chiffon, silk, fur, suede, leather, denim and cotton.

Please see below fall 2014 runway photographs from Anna Sui’s collection:

Add minimal accessories to keep it looking fresh and not too hippy. We love flared trousers with platform high heels but note that were NOT talking bell bottoms; the new way to wear flares is a wide leg graduating from the hip down. Get the Boho look with us here at Joel and Son, please see our suggestions below:

 2. No longer are Culottes associated with military uniforms from the eighteenth- century, this season leading fashion designers have used this style of trouser in multiple women’s wear looks. The Culotte should either fall just above the knee or graze the ankle. Sharp tailoring is essential as this garment is all about the linear perspective.

Although wool or a wool and silk/cashmere mix would be an obvious choice of fabric, the best thing about the Culotte is anything stiff or with backing works! We recommend the below alternatives aswell...

Last but certainly not least; 3. Let’s talk about denim and can we just emphasize; Joel & Son love denim! From dungarees to skinny jeans, denim has never been hotter. Flared, skinny, ripped, frayed, boxy-mom-jeans, embellished, baggy… the list goes on. So bring out all your old jeans that you thought would never come back into fashion and team with a denim jacket or shirt because that is how we are wearing it this season- head to toe! The fashion pack look to Marques Almeida who is known to be the connoisseur of denim and displays a good example of how to make it chic and up to date as well as Ashish, who is popular for his outlandish outtake on the trend. Instead of getting something off the rails, be different and make your own! You will know that no one else will ever have the exact same jeans as you.

So style your coat with culottes, ripped jeans with cable knits and groovy florals with flares because these temperatures look like they are here to stay- and what type of Londoners would we be to complain about the lack of rain!? All in all, good news: new clothes AND it is socially acceptable to continue wearing your excessively large sunglasses in November because hallo, which fashionista doesn’t want an excuse to wear her favourite frames all year round?
